The athletes that have helped build this team are extremely talented, especially in the previous 20 years. The squad has had a standout player from New York to New Jersey and now to Brooklyn. Julius Erving

Erving had a key role in the franchise’s two championships. Erving led the Nets to championships in 1974 and 1976, despite never winning an NBA championship. Before the Nets moved to the NBA, he established himself as the most significant player in the ABA, earning three consecutive MVP awards.

Erving scored 34.7 points per game in his final season in the ABA and was awarded MVP of the playoffs. Later in his career, Erving won an NBA championship with the Philadelphia 76ers, but he is remembered as one of the greatest basketball players of all time.

Derrick Coleman

After a stellar collegiate career, Coleman was the Number one overall choice in the 1990 NBA Draft. After that, he had a strong debut season and was named Rookie of the Year.

Coleman almost averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds per game in his second season. The Nets made the playoffs in 1993 and 1994 thanks to a young core and a good head coach in Chuck Daly. 

Brook Lopez

While Lopez has only been in one All-Star Game, he is unquestionably one of the greatest Nets in team history. Lopez was named to the All-Star Game as a substitute for Rajon Rondo in 2013, but his impact in Brooklyn is far greater. Lopez is one of just six players in franchise history to start 400 games. In team history, he has been introduced in the second game, logged the third-most minutes, and grabbed the third-most rebounds.

He also has a number of career records with Brooklyn. He has attempted and made the most two-point field goals. He’s also the career leader and is on the verge of taking over the scoring lead.

Buck Williams

Williams forewent his senior year after three years at Mayland and was drafted third overall by the Nets. In his debut season, he scored 15.5 points per game and led the team with 12.3 rebounds. After helping the Nets win 20 more games than the previous season, he was voted Rookie of the Year. In the following five seasons, he was named to three All-Star games, solidifying his status as one of the league’s finest power forwards.

During his time with the Nets, he was one of the top three rebounders in the NBA, never averaging less than 12 rebounds a game. Since joining the NBA in 1984, the Nets have never advanced past the second round of the playoffs.

Williams was an all-time top scorer when he retired, but he is now only four points behind in that category. Williams, on the other hand, remains the all-time rebounding leader.

Jason Kidd

Kidd’s management helped the Nets. In 2002 and 2003, Kidd guided the Nets to the NBA Finals. Kidd had his best scoring season in 2003, averaging 18.7 points per game and leading the league in assists. He was also named to the All-Defensive Team and became the top rebounding point guard in the league.

The Nets had a 10-game unbeaten record in the 2003 playoffs, which included sweeping the Milwaukee Bucks and Detroit Pistons. The Nets, on the other hand, were defeated by the Spurs in six games.

The Nets had fallen to the Lakers the year before. The Nets advanced past the first round of the playoffs for the first time since 1984 in 2002. Kidd still holds the franchise record for assists, steals, and triple-doubles.

John Wilson

John Wilson is special to the Nets since he was a member of the club during their ABA days and then returned when the team joined the NBA. In the 1970s, he helped the New York Nets win two American Basketball Association (ABA) league titles. 

Kenyon Martin

Kenyon Martin had moments with the Nets. Martin averaged 12 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game as a rookie with the New Jersey Nets. He was chosen to the NBA All-Rookie First Team and placed second in the Rookie of the Year vote.
